What is Prevention?
NRVCS Prevention provides evidence-based programs, initiatives, and campaigns intended to prevent or reduce the risk of problems related to substance abuse, mental health disorders, physical illness, and violence. We also aim to raise public awareness ofproblems associated with these issues.
Our Mission is to create a community environment conducive to individuals reaching their full potential through prevention efforts focused on substance abuse and mental health.
Our Vision is that all New River Valley residents live in a community where mental, emotional, and physical health and wellness are valued and accepted as the norm.
NRVCS Prevention
NRVCS Prevention covers all five communities in the New River Valley: Floyd County, Giles County, Montgomery County, Pulaski County, and Radford City. We serve youth and adults in the region through substance abuse and mental health initiatives in schools and the community.
Our diverse team is made up of Prevention Specialists with backgrounds in social work, education, and public health. We are funded from various federal, state, and local sources.
