NRVCS will sponsor a community candlelight vigil on Saturday, August 31 in observance of International Overdose Awareness Day. The event will take place at the Bisset Park gazebo in Radford beginning at 7 p.m. This is the third consecutive year that this event has been conducted.
A brief program, featuring speakers who have been directly affected by overdose and opioid use, will begin the evening. Lighting of candles will take place at dusk. (Sunset is just before 8:00 PM that evening.)
NRVCS officials say the purpose of the event is to remember those lives that have been lost to overdose, but to also offer a message of hope to those who are battling addiction. They point out that recovery is possible if individuals are given access to professional treatment and support.Share This Story, Choose Your Platform!
