  7. Local agencies hosting virtual education series to help residents stop smoking

New River Valley Community Services (NRVCS), in cooperation with the UVa Cancer Center, the New River Health District, and the five local community coalitions throughout the New River Valley, will host a free series of virtual presentations designed to help people quit smoking.

The series, which will be broadcast nightly via Facebook Live on the NRVCS Facebook page, is being conducted in support of – and leading up to – the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout event on Thursday, November 19. The program begins Monday, November 16, starting each night at 7:00 p.m.

Nightly presentations will allow time for questions from viewers/audience members and are expected to last approximately 30 minutes each. Scheduled topics include:

Monday, November 16 – Understanding Addiction
Tuesday, November 17 – Vaping, E-Cigarettes & Other Products
Wednesday, November 18 – Medications & Alternative Therapies
Thursday, November 19 – Coping Strategies, Resources & A Message of Hope

The community coalitions in the New River Valley include: the Floyd County Multi-Disciplinary Team, the Giles Youth-Adult Partnership, the Montgomery County Prevention Partners, the Pulaski Community Partners Coalition and the Radford Youth-Adult Partnership.
