Styleburst is a
project designed to be a self-esteem boost for
individuals receiving services from New River Valley
Community Services. There is no cost to participants.
Project staff are all volunteers, including VT graduate
students, members of the community, and even some
licensed beauticians. NRVCS staff determine who would
benefit from this service. Participants are male and
female, adults and children. This project is lots of fun
for all, including the volunteers and NRVCS staff who
accompany the participants.
Here's how it
works: A group is taken to a Goodwill store, where each
participant chooses a new "outfit." During the selection
process, they get feedback from project staff regarding
what items are most flattering. After the purchase of
the clothing, all who choose to, receive hair and makeup
styling. All participants receive gifts in addition to
their new outfit, such as makeup products, hair
accessories, jewelry, toothbrushes, aftershave and
cologne.
Styleburst
depends on your contributions. Please consider
sponsoring an individual for $10. Tax-deductible
contributions can be sent to: New River Valley Community
Services, attn. Holly Carroll, 700 University City
Boulevard, Blacksburg, VA 24060. Checks should be
payable to "NRVCS" with "Styleburst" in the memo line.
