Elmtree features 13 private bedrooms with two spacious common living areas. There are typically 12 residents who live at Elmtree.

Elmtree provides access to social and recreational activities and makes available religious and employment opportunities in the community or at home.

Elmtree has available caring staff on-site 24 hours a day. Personnel at Elmtree are all employees of New River Valley Community Services. Elmtree staff have special training in the areas of physical/mental health care, personal development and other areas of daily living. A staff supervisor provides continuous oversight through on-call availability 24 hours per day.

As a Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) home, an application for low income housing must be submitted before an individual may be considered for residency. Persons who wish to live at Elmtree should contact Holly Carroll at
540-961-8362. Rent at Elmtree is based on income. The application process includes providing basic information such as credit references, housing references, verification of income and disability. Once the application has been completed, the individual remains on a waiting list until a bedroom becomes available. Renters must meet all VHDA requirements and sign a one-year lease. After one year, individuals must provide a 30-day notice if they choose to vacate.

Elmtree fees include rent and residential fees for food and services that are not paid for by Medicaid or other payment sources. Residential support services provided through the 24-hour staffing are typically paid by the individual’s Medicaid Waiver. The residential fees are paid for by the resident and include costs for food, utilities not covered by the home (i.e. phone), maintenance of the facility, supplies and various personal items.
