May is Mental Health Month

Mental Health Month was created more than 50 years ago to raise awareness about mental health conditions and the importance of mental wellness for all.  This year’s theme is focused on an essential component of maintaining and protecting mental health and wellness: social connectedness. As the anniversary of a disaster or traumatic event approaches, many survivors report a return of restlessness and fear. On a more positive note, the anniversary of a disaster or traumatic event also can provide an opportunity for emotional healing. Read more

NAMI-NRV Chapter to meet May 8
The New River Valley Chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will hold its next meeting on Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. at the Against All Odds Clubhouse in Radford (220. East Main Street). Consumers and family members are encouraged to attend!!!

Raft announces spring training

The Raft Crisis Hotline will begin a new training session the last week of May. Trainees will meet twice a week for three weeks (time of day to be determined by the training class) to learn about managing crisis calls, empathy, local resources, and Raft procedures.

At the end of the training session, the trainees will be assigned a weekly two-hour shift, and will be eligible to sign up for overnight and weekend shifts. Click here
