  7. Former NRVCS Executive Director Lynn Chenault dies

Former NRVCS Executive Director H. Lynn Chenault passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019 after a long illness. He was 78.

Lynn served as Executive Director of NRVCS for a total of 22 years (1983 – 2005) and was instrumental in spearheading the development of many initiatives and programs that are still being utilized to this very day.

Even after retiring from NRVCS, Lynn returned to serve as a member of the NRVCS Board of Directors, representing Pulaski County. He later agreed to serve on the board for Mountain Empire Services of the Southwest, Inc., which he was currently serving on at the time of his passing.

Lynn devoted his career to enhancing the quality of life for persons with behavioral health issues. He was a champion of community-based services and was a tireless advocate at the local, state and federal level. His contributions to our organization and the New River Valley are countless and there is no denying the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind.

We have been informed that a celebration of Lynn’s life will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 11:00 a.m. at John M. Oakey Funeral Home & Crematory, 305 Roanoke Boulevard, Salem.

Our hearts go out to Lynn’s wife, Barbara, and their family during this incredibly difficult time, as well as the many people who had the honor of working with and/or knowing Lynn.

May he rest in peace.
